Setup Guide
From Box to First Swing
1. Measure Your Space
Confirm 10 to 12 ft of hitting distance, 2-3 in. of side buffer, 2-3 in. above the enclosure, and 12-16 in. behind the screen (9.5 in. minimum for the rear fittings).
2. Build the 2-Inch Frame
Cut 2-inch EMT to the included plan, or add the pre-cut Pipe Framing Kit, cut to the sizes on your diagram.
3. Wrap the BlackStop™
Hang the single-piece BlackStop™ enclosure on the frame with the steel corner fittings and secure the detachable flaps.
4. Tension the Screen
Hang the triple-layer screen and tension it with the included cable receivers, springs and zip ties for a flat, even, distraction-free surface.
5. Aim the Projector
Center the projector on the screen and dial in the image. Darker rooms (or the High-Contrast Gray screen) give the deepest blacks.
6. Let It Settle
Give the screen a couple of days under tension to relax any wrinkles, keep new balls clean, and you are set for thousands of swings.

What comes in the Carl's Place Pro enclosure kit?
Each kit includes the premium triple-layer impact screen in your chosen material, the BlackStop™ single-piece black-out enclosure, foam inserts that keep stray shots from bouncing off the frame, all the fittings you need to build your frame, cable receivers, springs and zip ties, and a custom diagram showing how to assemble the frame and how long to cut your pipes (made in the USA). For the frame, add the pre-cut 2-inch EMT Pipe Framing Kit, or buy EMT locally and cut it to the included diagram.
How much room do I need for the Pro enclosure?
Plan for 10 to 12 ft of hitting distance from the screen, 2-3 in. of buffer on each side, 2-3 in. of buffer above the enclosure, and 12-16 in. of clearance behind the screen, with a minimum of 9.5 in. required for the rear fittings. Build the frame to the dimensions on your custom cut diagram for even tension.
What is the difference between the Premium and High-Contrast Gray screens?
Both are triple-layer premium screens. The Premium screen is the standard pick for most rooms. High-Contrast Gray uses the same three-layer build but delivers deeper blacks and crisper color, which helps most in rooms with ambient light. Gray builds contrast by absorbing light, so the projector has to make that back up. We recommend at least 4,000 lumens in a room with any meaningful light, and 5,000 or more if the room is genuinely bright. In a room you can darken, the white screen gives the better image.
Do I need to buy the 2-inch EMT frame pipes separately?
The Pro frame is built from 2-inch steel EMT, which you can buy locally to save money using the included plan, or add the pre-cut Pipe Framing Kit for a no-measuring, no-cutting build. The kit includes the steel fittings and fasteners either way. Do not substitute PVC. It will not work with the fittings.
What is the difference between the Pro and DIY enclosures?
The Pro uses a rigid 2-inch EMT frame with higher screen tension for a flatter surface and a more finished look, plus the BlackStop™ wraparound. The Carl's Place DIY (C-Series) uses a simpler 1-inch frame and is the budget-friendly starting point. Choose Pro for dedicated rooms where screen quality and appearance matter most.
Can I mount an overhead launch monitor on the Pro enclosure?
Yes. The optional Movable Crossbar is built to hold overhead launch monitors and includes the fittings, pipes, and a fabric sleeve sized to your enclosure for a clean, pro-level look. It positions the unit over the hitting area without adding clutter to the bay. Carl's most popular Pro build pairs it with the 10 ft by 15.5 ft by 15 ft size: the width gives a 16:10 image, and 15 ft of depth puts the front top bar right where a BenQ LK936ST mounts, so the projector needs no ceiling mount at all.
How far away should I stand from the impact screen?
For the safety of both the golfer and the screen, the manufacturer recommends standing a minimum of 10 to 12 ft from the screen. This distance also helps prevent premature wear on the material.
Can I iron or steam the impact screen?
Time, tension and gravity remove most wrinkles on their own within a couple of days, though fold marks on a screen that sat boxed for a long time can take a few weeks. Skip the iron, since it is easy to damage the screen. A clean handheld steamer with distilled water speeds things up and should not leave water marks.
How do I extend the life of my golf screen?
Use new golf balls free of scuffs, grass stains, or marker, and keep your clubs clean. Protect the edges and grommets from direct strikes. Impact screens are wearable products and may show wear early with heavy use, but they are built to withstand many thousands of strikes over their life.
How long does the Pro enclosure take to assemble?
About two hours. Plan on a helper or two for lifting and joining the 2-inch frame pipes. You need 6 mm and 3/16 in. hex bits with a ratchet (or hex keys), a tape measure, a rubber mallet, pliers, a cutting tool and at least one 8 ft step ladder.

What is the warranty and return policy?
Carl's Place screens and enclosure materials are wearable goods, so they do not carry a warranty. Some marking and wear from the first sessions is normal, and how long a screen lasts depends on skill level, how often you play and how it is installed. If something looks unusual rather than like normal wear, send us photos and your order number and we will take it up with Carl's Place. Impact screens can be returned unused, but not once they have been hit. Excellent enclosure works great. I found you do not need to use all the bungees to secure screen, I was experiencing bounce back so I removed a few bungees.

The hitting bay is great. Its big! Just barely fit in our bonus room. The fiberbuilt mats are also great. I am disappointed in the sky trac though. It regularly misses shots and have to restart it frequently.

Everything works well other than the skytrak unit itself. It is consistently unreliable. It goes into almost a sleep mode and won’t read at all. Small chip shots won’t read 15-20 times in a row regardless of ball location. Then you will drag your shoelace across the laser and it’ll read a 90 yard hit. The additional software needed to play courses is fairly pricey but definitely makes for a cooler experience. Personally, I would go with a different sim all together. The laser dot on the floor makes for a pain if you are playing a round. You have to move the machine from tee shots to fairway shots so the tee isn’t in the way (I ended up buying rubber cone tees to prevent from doing this).

The screen was easy to set up and with clear instructions that I received from Topshelfgolf before it arrived made it easier. I did make some adjustments for the 406 projector using the side shift because of the amount of room that I had to play with. Very happy with the results and with the help from the support team. The product is nicely designed. Firstly that makes the assembly easy and straight forward, secondly the final setup serves the purpose well. There is a gas pipe sticking out of the wall at exactly 8 feet from ground. I was hoping the golf frame had some play so that It would fit in easily. However the frame is EXACTLY 8 feet tall. I had to get a tube cutter to trim two tubes 1/4 inch shorter to slide that corner under that pipe. The screen is strong, thick and impact absorbing. It makes the hitting very quiet.

It works perfect in our space! It was very easy to put together and didn’t take too much time. Still doing little tweaks here and there as the stuff stretches out some to get it to fit the best but we are 100% happy with it!

Got my Skytrak set up this week. I bought the “PerfectBay” package. With the 6x10 mat and Optoma ZH406ST projector. I also bought a gaming computer and safety net from Amazon. It took about 4 hours to set up the impact screen and mount the projector. I had to extend the down rod on the projector mount. I found 1 ¼” emt from Lowes was the perfect size to extend the down rod. It took me (a non-computer guy) about 2 hours to set up Skytrak My daughter and I have been out playing the Game Improvement everyday since we hooked it up. I am doing research now to see what golf course package I am going to add on. Well worth the money. Adam

The folks at Top Shelf Golf were fantastic. They listened to what I was trying to do and assisted me with everything I needed to have a great set up. The SkyTrak package I purchased from then is great. I was pretty easy to set up (having someone help is a plus). In fact, when I sent this video to them Ivan noticed my picutre was not taking up the entire screen and suggested I adjust my aspect ratio; thank Ivan. Set up the SkyTrak with the Return net enclosure in about 1 hour by myself. Super easy to set up and use. Ordered on a Friday evening and had everything at the house by the following Friday. Had a question about setting up the SkyTrak and Ivan quickly answered my question. Would recommend. I use in my garage with 9 ft ceilings and have plenty of room.

I absolutely love my new SkyTrak Perfect Bay simulator setup from Topshelf Golf! It’s setup in my basement which has 9 ft. ceilings. I’m only 5’8” so it works out perfectly. Everything included was top quality and arrived within a couple of weeks. The 8’ x 10.5’ is the perfect size screen for my setup. It took some time setting up the enclosure and hanging the Optoma projector but I couldn’t be happier having my own simulator to practice or play a round of golf whenever. I also purchased the TGC 2019 software so I can play all the top courses around the world. I can even play my home course, TPC River’s Bend during the cold winter months in Ohio. Awesome! My brother comes over a lot to play and he said “this is the best toy ever” and we are both in our 50’s. I have had the Top Shelf Golf Simulator for about 2 weeks now. I have used it several times and I can say with quite a bit of confidence that this will definitely improve my golf game. I don't normally leave reviews, but when I do....their positive. I was surprised how easy it was to put together...took me about 15-20 minutes. I didn't see issues with any of the pieces. If I wanted to move it, I would be comfortable taking it apart and putting it back together to give an idea of how easy it is to assemble. I thought the screen would look and feel more like Tyvek, but it was surprisingly plush and surprisingly white. It's supposed to take up to 250 mph ball speeds...least to say I won' t be sniffing that anytime, unless Martin Borgmeier or Kyle Berkshire visit. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price. It was on the less expensive side compared to other screens, but I felt like I purchased a high quality hitting bay. My only advice is to use clean, white golf balls only. I hit a dirty one into the net and saw it leave a ball mark. I was able to clean it, but lesson learned. Also, buy some Top Flite bombs if you want to feel good about your distance :D Ok done.
